| why? |
Faced with a world careening into violent conflict,
we wanted to raise money for peace organizations, while bringing
political expression into suburbia. We wanted to do something
that would appeal to young families who might otherwise not find
a way to be engaged with the peace movement. Now, with conflicts
all over the world, it is more crucial than ever to let our leaders
know that most mainstream Americans, regardless of political affiliation,
prefer peaceable solutions to world conflicts. We need to
reaffirm our commitment to peace, and we need to do it publicly
so that our leaders are not emboldened to engage in ever-expanding
military confrontations throughout the world. |

| who? |
What could be more mainstream than “soccer moms”?
There can be power in being perceived as conventional -- even if
you are the hippest soccer mom around! Even U2 lead singer Bono
(truly the hippest of the hip!) acknowledges the power of the conventional,
saying in the New York Times that “The administration isn't
afraid of rock stars and student activists — they are used
to us…But they are nervous of soccer moms and church folk.
Now when soccer moms and church folk start hanging around
with rock stars and activists, then they really start paying attention.”
